New start & new attack: Leon Bauer back with Rainer Gottwald
Leon Bauer has found back to his “professional boxing roots” after almost five years and is again under contract with Rainer Gottwald and his new promotion.
First fight planned for the end of July, then Junior World Championships in Ludwigshafen on September 24!
It’s the “return of the lion”: Leon Bauer is back with Rainer Gottwald! The busy promoter from Karlsruhe, who had already looked after Bauer as Germany’s once youngest professional, has brought the “Lion from the Palatinate” back into his team and thus into the newly founded KAIF 5STAR BOXING Promotion. The two southern Germans had been off the air for almost five years – following internal disagreements. Now a call was made to Gottwald as well as an appointment together with Team Bauer, where all parties involved came to an agreement.
Gottwald once made Bauer not only the youngest professional in Germany, but also the youngest junior world champion. Bauer won the IBF Youth belt against Gheorghe Sabau in 2016 at the age of 18, then successfully defended it twice. His last ring appearance, however, was a good three years ago. In a highly interesting duel with Toni Kraft, of whom there should be more in Germany, the Palatine was able to win by a narrow margin.
First fight planned for the end of July
Leon Bauer, who has just become a father, is currently preparing at the Bulldog Gym in Karlsruhe, under the watchful eye of his new coach Zijo Poljo. The 23-year-old is scheduled to return to the ring on July 30. “We first want Leon to enter a ring again and shake off the rust, after all he was inactive for almost three years. On September 24, our renewed common goal is then to recapture the IBF Junior World Championship title, for which Leon has already boxed three times.” In the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Ludwigshafen, a full card of boxers is planned, and the first title fights have already been fixed. For example, the rematch between Ahmad Ali and Felice Moncelli, which will be for the IBF European belt.
But Leon Bauer’s biggest wish: he wants to box next year against Vincent Feigenbutz from Karlsruhe, who was also managed by Gottwald for many years. “Leon wants this fight more than anything. I will give everything to make sure that we can put this highly explosive fight on the line. No matter what it costs!”, said Gottwald.
